I remember how proud I was in 1995 to be named captain of the Mansfield High School Gold Duster Drill Team. After years of hard work, I had achieved my goal of captain. But soon after that, I began to panic. I knew how hard it was for my family to make ends meet, much less adding the extra burden of supporting a drill team captain. I was too embarrassed to ask for help and didn’t know what I would do. But then something amazing happened. The booster club and several caring parents stepped in to help fund my drill team expenses. I am very thankful to those who donated to help me achieve my dream. After all, I learned so much in those drill team years. I learned about discipline, hard work, and leadership, just to name a few traits.
In the Spirit of those caring individuals who gave me a shot, Spirit Mark offers one young lady per team the chance to earn a practice wear scholarship. To be eligible, a girl must meet just a few simple requirements. There’s a short application, but it will just take a minute to fill out.
